Historical lectures

By the end of February, five of the six historical lectures planned as part of the “Rzeszow and Stropkov – cooperation for border area culture” project had been delivered. They were organized in Strzyżów, Dukla, Rzeszów, Stropkov and Korczyn, and were entitled “Cultural heritage of the Polish-Slovak border area from the period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire”.

Małgorzata Jarosińska from the Regional Museum in Rzeszów and Tadeusz Ochenduszko, a history teacher at the First High School in Rzeszów, took the floor as speakers. They briefly presented to the participants the history of the present Polish-Slovak borderland in the period of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, each time with particular emphasis on the history of the town where the lecture was held. Interesting stories about the autonomy of Galicia in administration, education and the army were supplemented with a rich photographic material, coming, among others, from the archives of Mr Edward Janusz and his family.

During the lecture, the course of the tourist route created as part of the project, reconstructing the “Józefinki” route – a historical communication route connecting Rzeszów and Stropkov in the 19th century – was also presented. The last lecture in Velkrop will take place in March.
